Bangladesh services Payment gateway guide

Which payment gateway is best in Bangladesh for the way your customers pay.

There is no single answer to which payment gateway is best in Bangladesh, because it depends on how your customers pay. If most of them pay by bKash or Nagad, a direct wallet gateway takes them straight to the wallet; if you also need cards and internet banking, an aggregator such as SSLCommerz, aamarPay or shurjoPay covers them through 1 merchant account. This guide compares the 2 setups on methods, settlement, documents, fees, integration and refunds, without ranking any vendor. Rizer builds both; Mystic Shop BD, a store we built, runs bKash directly with SSLCommerz beside it.

The short answer

Which gateway fits which kind of business?

Start from how your buyers pay today, then pick the setup that matches.

Most buyers pay by bKash

Apply for the bKash payment gateway (PGW) and connect it directly. The buyer taps bKash at checkout and lands on the bKash payment page with no extra choice to make.

You need cards, several wallets and internet banking

Use an aggregator. 1 contract and 1 integration give the buyer a page where they pick a card, a wallet or their bank.

Your buyers are split between both groups

Run a direct bKash gateway for wallet buyers and an aggregator for everyone else. Mystic Shop BD works this way.

You have no merchant account yet

Take bKash or Nagad transfers to your own number. The buyer submits the transaction ID and a screenshot, and your staff approve it. IELTS Test BD takes mobile transfers this way.

Most orders are paid in cash

Keep cash on delivery at checkout next to any gateway. Mystic Shop BD was built around cash on delivery as the main payment method in its market.

Definitions

What is the difference between a wallet gateway and an aggregator?

They differ in how many payment methods sit behind 1 contract.

Direct wallet gateway

A payment service run by the wallet company itself, such as the bKash PGW or Nagad's merchant gateway. It accepts that 1 wallet. You sign with the wallet company and add 1 integration per wallet.

Aggregator

A company that connects many payment methods behind 1 account, such as SSLCommerz, aamarPay or shurjoPay. Cards, mobile wallets and internet banking all arrive through the same API, and the aggregator settles the combined amount to your bank account.

Coverage

Which payment methods does each gateway say it accepts?

The lists below come from each vendor's own website in October 2026, in no particular order. Confirm the current list before you apply.

bKash PGW

bKash wallet payments only. The bKash developer portal documents tokenized checkout with and without an agreement, an authorise and capture option, query and search APIs, and a refund API for the full amount or part of it.

Nagad merchant gateway

Nagad wallet payments only. Ask Nagad for its current merchant terms, documents and fees when you apply. Mystic Shop BD takes Nagad as a manual transfer.

SSLCommerz

Lists debit, credit and prepaid cards, 10 mobile banking brands including bKash, Nagad, Rocket and Upay, 10 internet banking brands, 4 e-wallets and EMI through 30+ banks. A sandbox opens after developer registration.

aamarPay

Lists 15+ payment schemes: Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay and Nexus cards, wallets such as bKash, Nagad, Rocket, Upay and Tap, and net banking. It offers a payment demo before you become a merchant and plugins for more than 13 types of CMS.

shurjoPay

Lists 18 channels, including Visa, Mastercard, American Express, bKash, Nagad, Rocket, Upay and Pathao Pay, with EMI, QR payments and payment links. Its plugins include WooCommerce, OpenCart, Laravel and Node.js.

Settlement

When does the money reach your bank?

Settlement is the payout from the gateway to you. Ask each vendor for its schedule in writing.

A business bank account in your name

shurjoPay states that it needs a separate business bank account and pays out on a weekly withdrawal schedule, which can move with bank working days, holidays or verification.

Wallet gateways settle under your agreement

With a direct bKash or Nagad gateway, the payout terms sit in your merchant agreement. Ask where the money lands, how often, and whether a minimum balance applies.

More gateways, more reports

Each gateway sends its own settlement report. With 1 aggregator you reconcile 1 report; with bKash direct plus an aggregator you reconcile 2. Saving the transaction ID on every order makes matching quick.

Documents

What documents does a payment gateway ask for?

Every gateway checks the business before it issues live credentials.

The common core

For a proprietorship, SSLCommerz publishes a list with a current trade licence, TIN certificate, DBID, the signatory's NID, a bank cheque leaf, an owner photo and a signed merchant form. Partnerships, limited companies, NGOs and other types have their own lists.

shurjoPay's list

An application form, a terms acceptance form, trade licence, TIN/VAT certificate, NID, recent photographs and a signed sub-merchant agreement. shurjoPay registers each website separately.

bKash and Nagad

Each wallet company sets its own merchant requirements. Ask bKash and Nagad for the current list for your business type when you apply, and apply early.

A website ready for review

Publish prices, contact details and delivery, refund and privacy policies on the site you apply with, and use 1 merchant name on every document.

Fees

What do payment gateways in Bangladesh charge?

Fees are set by each vendor and change, so check current fees with the vendor and compare these 4 parts.

The fee on each payment

Most gateways take a share of each transaction, and the rate can differ between cards, wallets and internet banking. Work it out on your own mix of methods.

Setup, yearly and payout charges

Ask whether there is a setup fee, a yearly fee, or a charge on each withdrawal.

Platform charges

Shopify may add its own transaction fee when an order is paid through a third-party gateway. A custom store or WooCommerce adds no platform fee on top of the gateway's.

The build

You pay for integration work once, separately from the gateway's fees. It grows with the number of gateways and extras such as refunds from your admin.

Integration effort

How much work is it to add each gateway to your site?

Every gateway works the same way: your server creates the payment, the buyer pays on the gateway's page, and your server verifies it. The platform decides where that code lives.

WordPress and WooCommerce

shurjoPay lists a WooCommerce plugin and aamarPay lists CMS plugins. If a vendor plugin does not fit your checkout, a custom one is written.

Shopify

Shopify only accepts payment providers it has approved for your store. Check which Bangladeshi options appear in your Shopify payment settings before you sign with a vendor.

Custom stores and web apps

The payment code sits in your own codebase, so a second gateway or an advance-payment incentive, as on Mystic Shop BD, is a change you control.

Refunds

How do refunds work with each setup?

Refunds go back through the gateway that took the payment, so check refund terms before you choose.

Refund terms

3 points to check on refunds

Ask whether refunds can be partial, whether they can be sent from your admin through an API, and how long the buyer waits. The bKash developer portal lists a refund API for full or partial amounts. shurjoPay states that it reviews refund claims and refunds after verification.

Publish your own refund policy, as Mystic Shop BD does

Questions

Choosing a payment gateway, common questions.

Which payment gateway is best in Bangladesh for a small online shop?

The one that matches how your buyers pay: a direct bKash gateway if most pay by bKash, or an aggregator if you also need cards and other wallets. Without a merchant account, start with cash on delivery and manual bKash transfers.

Is SSLCommerz better than aamarPay?

Neither is better for every business, since both are aggregators for cards, mobile wallets and internet banking. Compare current fees, payout schedule, documents and plugins.

Does SSLCommerz accept bKash and Nagad?

Yes, SSLCommerz lists bKash, Nagad, Rocket and Upay among its mobile banking brands. Compare the aggregator's wallet fee with a direct bKash agreement.

Do I need a direct bKash gateway if I already use an aggregator?

Not always, because aggregators already accept bKash. A direct gateway sends the buyer straight to the bKash page under your own bKash agreement. Mystic Shop BD runs bKash directly with SSLCommerz beside it.

What documents do I need for a payment gateway?

Usually a trade licence, TIN, the signatory's NID and bank details, with the exact list set by the gateway and your business type. SSLCommerz publishes its lists by business type; ask bKash, Nagad, aamarPay and shurjoPay for theirs.

What are payment gateway fees in Bangladesh?

Each vendor sets its own fees and changes them, so check current fees with the vendor before you sign. Compare the fee per method, any setup, yearly or withdrawal charges, and platform fees such as Shopify's.

Can I take online payments without a merchant account?

Yes, through manual bKash or Nagad transfers that your staff approve. Students on IELTS Test BD pay by mobile transfer this way, with a transaction reference and a screenshot.
